Tuesday 9th February is pancake night and half term for our members, but since we are all still running virtual sessions, we are making pancakes over Zoom and sharing the fun. We have a few options to challenge our young people, cooking in frying pan, or on a camp stove or with make your own tin can stove.

Basic ingredients:

  • 1 Egg, 100g plain flour and 300ml milk, a pinch of salt &  cooking oil/spray
  • Bowl
  • Knife, fork & spoon
  • Favourite topping

Option 1: The simple option, cook with a frying pan on your hob.

Option 2: On a camp stove (if you have on) and a frying pan.

Option 3: Cooking on a tin can with a candle for mini pancake experience. – Need some preparation work the day before.

  • Tin can – empty, clean and then filled with water to top and put in the freezer to be frozen for Tuesday’s session
  • Hammer and something to punch holes in the tin (like a cross-head screwdriver)
  • Something to stand the can on, so it lifts up a little for airflow.
  • Candles or birthday candles, note, we found tea lights do not get the can hot enough
  • Plasticine, blue-tack or something similar. This is to put the candle to stop it from falling over.
  • Chopping board or something to put the tin and candles on
