About the opportunity:

Water Orton Scout Group is looking to start a Squirrels section and is seeking a Team Leader(s) and Team Members to help establish the section. There is support not only from the Scout Group and our team of volunteers but also a 12-month programme and support from the Scout HQ team.

We are happy to discuss and talk about the opportunity, and there is no obligation in just finding out more about the roles and our Scout Group

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fantastic Scout Group and be part of starting Squirrel Scout Dray and assisting in providing a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities for young people aged 4 to 6 years. We are looking for a Squirrel Scout Team Lead and support (male or female) who will help to provide exciting indoor and some outdoor activities for girls and boys aged 6 to 8 years by following the Squirrel Scout Programme, including games, skills and award work and preparing them to move on to the Beaver Scout section when they reach 6 years old.

You will need to be able to:

  • communicate with young people of the relevant age range
  • enjoy working with children
  • have a good sense of humour
  • have common sense, patience and understanding
  • be creative and be open to learning new skills
  • be a minimum of 18 years of age
  • undertake a DBS disclosure prior to the commencement of this appointment

The leader’s duties would normally be:

  • supporting other adults to run the weekly programme
  • gathering material to use at the meetings
  • helping to plan the programme (with the Beaver Scout Leader) for the weekly meetings
  • running games and handicrafts, and other activities at the weekly meetings
  • attending occasional day visits to places of interest and indoor sleepovers
  • acting as the person in charge

Practical Considerations

The role requires a practical person who can lead activities; you may have experience working with young people or be looking to gain experience. Scouting offers a great way to build your skills and experience while supporting your local community.
