The Scout Association has announced updates to the First Response training module. Under the new training guidelines, the Refresher course is no longer available, and all volunteers must therefore complete the full six hours of training to renew the First Response certificate.
Until face-to-face Scouting is back to normal (green), it is not possible to deliver First Response training where elements of it (for example, CPR) are required to be demonstrated by participants in order to validate the training.
This means there will be an accumulation of volunteers requiring First Response training once normal face-to-face Scouting returns. To reduce the impact of this, First Aid certificates that expired after face-to-face Scouting was suspended will be extended for six months from when normal face-to-face Scouting returns.
In the meantime, to help reduce the time required to catch up on the resumption of face-to-face training, with the accumulation of volunteers requiring training, it is now possible to complete the theory parts of the training online. Warwickshire Scouts have joined other Scout counties in taking advantage of an online programme developed by Hampshire Scouts.
Berkshire Scouts supports online training in two modules. A theory module (two online sessions) and a practical module:
Module 10A – Theory 1 (online course)
(delivered via Hampshire Scouts module)
Click this link for the e-learning session – complete the enrolment and follow the online instructions for the (approx) two hours e-learning session. The course can be completed in sections and saved. On completion of all sections, submit the form (selecting ‘Berkshire’) so your progress can be recorded by our County Administrator.
Module 10A – Theory 2 (via Zoom)
(delivered by Warwickshire Scouts trainers)
Complete an interactive online session with a First Response trainer (via Zoom).
On completion of First Response Theory 1 and 2, Module 10A will be validated on Compass.
Module 10B – Practical
(to be delivered by Warwickshire Scouts trainers at a time to be confirmed)
Volunteers to attend a short practical session (approx two hours) to validate the practical elements of the training. Module 10A (parts 1 and 2) should be completed prior to attending this training.
On completion, Module 10B will be validated on Compass and a full First Response certificate issued. This will be valid for three years.
